The United States condemned the recent attacks on transmission towers which disrupted the supply of electricity to Kabul.

“Afghans face enough challenges from COVID-19 without armed militants destroying transmission towers and disrupting electricity to hospitals & homes in Kabul. I strongly condemn recent attacks on infrastructure in Afghanistan. Afghans must come together to fight COVID-19,” Alice Wells, the Principal Deputy Assistant Secretary for the Bureau of South and Central Asian Affairs said in a Twitter post.

The anti-government armed militants destroyed a transmission tower in capital Kabul late on Sunday night and disrupted the supply of electricity to the capital.

Da Afghanistan Breshna Sherkat, the state utility firm, in a statement said the militants destroyed the transmission line in Mir Bacha Kot area at around 8:45 pm local time.

The statement further added that the militants destroyed the transmission tower which was used to supply 220kV of electricity to Kabul.

The militants had earlier destroyed a transmission tower in northern Baghlan province few days ago which halted the supply of electricity to Kabul and some other provinces.
