The U.S. Special Representative for Afghanistan Reconciliation Ambassador Zalmay Khalilzad met with the foreign minister of Turkmenistan as part of regional trip aimed at reviving Afghan peace talks.
Ambassador Khalilzad has shared a brief statement in his official Twitter account regarding his recent trips to Russia, Uzbekistan, and Turkmenistan regarding Afghan peace.
In his Twitter post, Ambassador Khalilzad has said he met with the Foreign Minister of Turkmenistan Rashid Meredov and emphasized on joint efforts for peace and reconciliation in Afghanistan.
The U.S. envoy for Afghan peace had earlier traveled to Afghanistan and Pakistan to meet with the leaders of the two countries regarding ongoing efforts for peace in Afghanistan.
The Office of the President, ARG Palace, said last week that Ambassador Khalilzad President Ghani on his recent trips to the region as well as the trips planned for the future.
No further details have been in this regard but the statement added that President Ghani hailed Ambassador Khalilzad for his efforts and said the government has announced negotiating team in Geneva conference, emphasizing that the government is committed to start peace talks.
President Ghani also added that joint efforts would help in achieving a dignified and lasting peace in Afghanistan.
