The U.S. Embassy in Kabul reacted to the killing of a prominent presidential guard in Kabul city, calling for his killers to be brought to justice.

“We mourn with Qeyam Maqsoudi’s family and his comrades in the Presidential Protection Service. We call for his killers to be brought to justice. The PPS has lost a capable security professional and a true patriot. #Afghanistan will miss his bravery and heroism,” the U.S. Embassy in Kabul said in a statement.

Tariq Arian, a spokesperson for the Ministry of Interior, said the gunmen opened fire on the two PPS personnel in Paghman district at around 8:20 pm on Friday.

He said one of the PPS personnel, Qeyamuddin Maqsoodi, lost his life in the attack and another one sustained injuries.

Arian further added that an investigation is underway regarding the attack.

No individual or group has so far claimed responsibility for the attack.
