The Taliban’s court has announced that two individuals have been lashed for the charge of “extramarital relations.”

The court disclosed that the primary court confirmed the harsh penalty on Thursday, February 1st, through a public statement.

The Supreme Court of the Taliban added that in addition to 35 lashes, each of these two individuals has also been sentenced to six months in prison.

The court’s statement did not specify whether the accused individuals were publicly lashed for extramarital relations or not.

This comes as authorities in the Taliban regime have previously emphasized adherence to strict punishment measures.

Since regaining control over Afghanistan, the Taliban regime has publicly lashed accused individuals on multiple occasions.

The implementation of such penalties has raised concerns about human rights and legal standards.

These recent actions highlight the continued enforcement of strict Islamic law within the interpretation of the Taliban in Afghanistan.

Following their return to power, the group has enforced oppressive policies, confining women to their homes and prohibiting their access to education and employment. This has occurred amidst a severe humanitarian crisis in the country.

The influx of refugees from neighbouring nations during a harsh winter, coupled with a shortage of funding from humanitarian organizations, has further intensified the already dire humanitarian situation in the country, leaving its prospects uncertain.

The group’s restrictive measures have had a devastating impact, particularly on women, exacerbating the ongoing humanitarian crisis and raising concerns about the well-being and future of the Afghan population.
