Turkish businessman kidnapped by gunmen in capital Kabul

Afghan policeAccording to reports, unknown gunmen have kidnapped a Turkish businessman in capital Kabul.

The incident took place on late Sunady night after a number of gunmen kidnapped Sami Yavuz, head of Afghanistan Turkish Industrialists & Businessmen’s Association, Turkish newspaper Milliyet reported.

He was kidnapped around 11:40pm on Sunday night, the newspaper added.

Sami Yavuz 41 has been doing business in Afghanistan and was living in the country during the past ten years.

Afghan security officials yet to comment regarding the reports.

This comes as Taliban militants kidnapped eight Turkish engineers along with a Russian, a Kyrgyz and an Afghan national on 21 April after their helicopter made an emergency landing in eastern Logar province.

At least four Turkish hostages were freed by Taliban militants on Sunday and Taliban group announced to release the remaining hostages in the near future.

The hostages were reportedly freed after tribal elders held negotiations with the Taliban militants.
