Turkey stabbed Russia in the back by shooting Russian fighter jet: Putin

In his reaction following the downing of a Russian fighter jet by Turkey, the Russian President Vladimir Putin has Turkey has backstabbed Russia, calling the act a stand out against the fight to suppress terrorism.

He said “This incident stands out against the usual fight against terrorism. Our troops are fighting heroically against terrorists, risking their lives.”

“But the loss we suffered today came from a stab in the back delivered by accomplices of the terrorists,” Putin added.

Stressing that the Russian Su-24 fighter jet did not pose any threat to Turkey, Putin said the plane was about a kilometer away from the Turkish border and was hit by an air-to-air missile launched by a Turkish F-1 jet.

He also added that the crash site is four kilometers from the border and the fighter jet was targeting terrorist targets in the Latakia province of Syria when it came under attack.

In regards to the financing of terrorist groups in Syria, Putin said Russia is aware of oil going from Syria under the control of terrorists to Turkey for a long time.

“IS has big money, hundreds of millions or even billions of dollars, from selling oil. In addition they are protected by the military of an entire nation. One can understand why they are acting so boldly and blatantly. Why they kill people in such atrocious ways. Why they commit terrorist acts across the world, including in the heart of Europe,” he added.

Putin said the incident will have grave consequences for Russia’s relations with Turkey, Warning that the act by Turkey would not go without an answer.
