Leaders from around the world including Former Afghan President and Former Chief Executive Officer of Afghanistan Abdullah Abdullah congratulated Recep Tayyib Erdogan after he won another term.

While expressing their regards to Erdogan on his election activities, they wished him peace and prosperity for the people of Turkey, whereas the opposition party criticized the election and described it “as unfair”.

Dr. Abdullah has stated that Turkey and Afghanistan are historical friends and allies and Turkey has always stood by the people of Afghanistan during difficult times.

According to Anka news agency, 98.77 percent of votes have been counted, of which Recep Tayyib Erdogan has won 52.02% while his rival Kilicdaroglu received 47.8% of votes.

The Turkish electoral authority declared Erdogan the winner of the election which will see him secure another five-year term.

World leaders including US President Joe Biden, German Chancellor Olaf Scholz, Ukrainian leader Volodymyr Zelenskyy, Pakistani Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif, NATO, and European Union sent separate congratulatory messages to Erdogan on winning the elections.

Following the victory announcement, President Erdogan spoke to his supporters, saying voters had given him the responsibility of governing for the next five years.

While thanking the voters Erdogan said “The only winner today is Turkey” and mockingly said goodbye to his arch-rival, Kemal Kilicdaroglu.

On the contrary, his rival Kilicdaroglu who received 47.8% of votes describe the votes as “the most unfair election in the year”.

Erdogan’s voter base is “devoted to him in a way that looks beyond the economic challenges facing the country,” DW correspondent reported.

Erdogan still enjoys immense popularity among the majority of people in Turkey for his services. His 20-year-long reign in power has allowed him to control the government establishment in his favor quite effectively.

According to political experts, Turkey’s election was unfair in the sense the government used state funds for political campaigns, adding that independent judicial bodies were also controlled by government officials.

Meanwhile, the Turkish government did not only use state media but also pro-government “very effectively” in favor of Erdogan.
