The U.S. President Donald Trump hailed the progress made in ongoing peace talks between the U.S. and Taliban representatives.
Speaking to reporters in Washington on Friday, Trump said “We have made a lot of progress. We are talking but we have made a lot of progress.”
Trump further added “We could win Afghanistan in two or three days or four days if we wanted.”
However, he emphasized that “I am not looking to kill 10 million people.”
Trump made similar remarks during a press conference with the Pakistani Prime Minister Imran Khan last month.
The latest by Trump hailing the progress in Afghan peace process followed hours before the U.S. and Taliban representatives resumed talks in Qatar.
Ambassador Khalilzad said in a Twitter post that the Taliban are signaling that they would like to conclude an agreement.
Furthermore, Ambassador Khalilzad said the United states is ready for a good agreement, emphasizing that “We are pursuing a peace agreement not a withdrawal agreement; a peace agreement that enables withdrawal.”
