Truck bomb kills at least 60, wounds 200 in Iraq

carambulance372readyA powerful truck bomb has killed at least 60 people and wounded around 200 others in Baghdad’s Sadr city.

In Thursday’s attack the suicide bomber targeted a predominant Shia market selling wholesale food items.

Muhsin al-Saedi, a police officer told media that “A refrigerator truck packed with explosives blew up inside Jamila market at around 6 am (local time), several people were killed and body parts were thrown on top of nearby buildings.”

The market was almost destroyed and rescuers trying to pull bodies from the rubbles.

Angry people who lost beloved ones in the explosion were cursing the government for not dispatching enough troops to the security check posts around the dity.

“We hold the government responsible, fully responsible,” Ahmad Ali Ahmad who was present at the site told reporters.

The Islamic State of Iraq and the Levant (ISIS) that controls large swathes of land in Iraq and Syria has claimed responsibility for the attack.
