According to Reuters US Senate Foreign Relations Committee Chairman Bob Menendez on Tuesday had said that the American withdrawal deadline may be reconsidered as the Taliban are not committed to agreement points of the US Doha Deal.
“I am very concerned about the viability of the peace process in Afghanistan,” Reuters quoted Menendez.
According to Menendez Taliban is not clearly abiding by all of the commitments made in the US-Taliban agreement inked in Doha in February last year.
U.S current has 2,500 military personnel in Afghanistan, “If the Taliban are confirmed as not meeting their commitments, which I personally believe they’re not, then we may have to reconsider the May 1 deadline,” Menendez said.
This comes after US Secretary of State Antony Blinken proposed a new peace plan last week.
This comes as Antony Blinken in a letter suggested a transitional government in which the Taliban would be given 50% of the power.
Afghan Vice President indicated that he would never sign such agreement he added that “in the county where we have several scholars like Imam Abu Hanifa; now two people who graduated from Haqqania School will hand over a certificate of Islam to us. I will never sign at the bottom of that shameful document,”.

The letter was dubbed shameful and was resisted as it put the fate of “35 million people” at risk.
As Blinken’s letter indicated a summit to be held in Turkey afterward some media outlets reported that Turkey have scheduled the gathering on March 27.
Turkish news agency Anadolu reported that Turkey is ready to take part in mediation efforts for peace in Afghanistan and the region.
A spokesman for the Justice and Development Omer Celik (AK) Party told the media, “Afghanistan is a very important country for us”.
Celik added, “Turkey is ready to be involved in all kinds of mediation efforts for peace in Afghanistan and the region”.
