Traffic incident leaves 44 killed or injured in Wardak

Wardak provinceAt least 3 people were killed and 41 others were injured following a fatal road traffic incident in central Maidan Wardak province of Afghanistan on Wednesday.

According to local government officials, the incident took place early Wednesday morning in Syedabad district, on Kabul-Kandahar highway.

Provincial governor spokesman, Ataullah Khogyani, confirmed 3 people were killed and 41 others were injured, after a bus lost control and turned over on the main highway.

Mr. Khogyani further added that the death toll could rise as the health condition of a number of passengers, is critical.

He said the main reason behind the incident is not clear so far.

Road traffic incidents are not rare in the main highways of Afghanistan. The majority of the incidents are taking place due to careless driving and violation of traffic rules by drivers.

The roads and highways in Wardak province has been damaged due to improvised explosive device attacks, which sometimes leads to traffic incidents.
