Health sources at the Samangan Provincial Hospital confirmed that following a traffic accident on the Kabul-Balkh highway (Dara-e-Souf to Balkh), five individuals, including a child, lost their lives, and 21 others were injured.

Sayed Osman Hamidi, the hospital’s administrator, Dr. Karamuddin Wakilzada, stated on Thursday, May 2nd, that the incident occurred in the “Chapchal” area along the highway in Dara-e-Souf District, Samangan Province.

He said the accident happened when a “Dina” type vehicle veered off the road.

Mr. Hamidi added that the injured were rushed to the Dara-e-Souf Hospital and the burnt market in Dara-e-Souf, with their conditions reported as critical.

Meanwhile, traffic incidents have been on the rise in recent days, resulting in dozens killed and injured.

Excessive speed, driver recklessness, failure to adhere to traffic laws, and road defects are among the factors contributing to traffic accidents in the country.

The recent traffic accident in Samangan, resulting in 26 casualties, underscores the urgent need for enhanced road safety measures in Afghanistan. Tragic incidents like these highlight the importance of addressing factors such as speeding, driver negligence, and poor road conditions to prevent further loss of life on the country’s roads. Efforts to enforce traffic laws and improve infrastructure are crucial to mitigating such accidents and ensuring the safety of commuters.
