Traffic accident kills 22 in Northeastern Afghanistan over past month

Local officials in Badakhshan province say that during the last month, 50 people, including women and children, have lost their lives in 20 traffic accidents in this province.

According to local media, reported Sunday, April 21st, citing Ehsanullah Kamgar, a spokesperson for the Badakhshan police, 22 people, including women and children, have lost their lives, and 28 others have been injured as a result of traffic accidents.

Meanwhile, the police command in Badakhshan province said in a newsletter that five people were killed and injured in a traffic accident on the Kishum-Takhar highway.

According to the newsletter, one woman lost her life in this incident, and the injured have been transferred to the Kishum district hospital.

Meanwhile, the spokesman for the Badakhshan police attributes recklessness and speeding to the increase in traffic incidents in the country.

He warned that if drivers do not obey traffic laws, they will face “legal action.”

This comes as dozens of people have lost their lives in traffic accidents in the country in recent weeks.
