The top U.S. Commander in Afghanistan Gen. Scott Miller committed continued support to Afghanistan during his visit to northern Faryab province.

Gen. Miller visited Faryab together with deputy interior minister for security Brigadier General Khoshal Sadat, deputy defense minister Dr. Yasin Zia and Chairman of the Independent Directorate of Local Governance Abdul Matin Bek.

The senior security and defense officials visited Faryab to participate in a security council (Security Shura) meeting.

The governor of Faryab Naqibullah Faiq said “I want to thank the ANDSF and the leadership for your support. Faryab is one of the safest areas because of the great work of the ANDSF, they’ve taken back control of areas where the Taliban attempted to control and collect taxes from the people. The ANDSF are now securing these areas.”

In the meantime, the Afghan National Army Special Operations Command Deputy Commander, Brigadier General Ahmadzai said “We have been successful because of the great partnership with the Provincial Governor and all the ANDSF. These forces, with the Afghan National Army Territorial Forces are able to provide security and deny the Taliban the opportunity to harm our people.”

Deputy defense minister Dr. Yasin Zia said “Faryab has turned in to a role model- the great work here by the Provincial Governor and ANDSF has earned the support of the people. You are retaking control, district by district.”

Meanwhile, General Miller said “You should be proud of your ANDSF.”

Furthermore, General Miller told the governor of Faryab province “What I commit to you, to Faryab, and to the people of Afghanistan is our continued support.”
