Top Taliban leader killed in northern Kunduz province

dead Taliban_censoredA top Taliban leader was killed during an operation in the restive northern Kunduz province of Afghanistan, the Ministry of Interior (MoI) said Wednesday.

A statement by MoI said the top Taliban leader was the shadow district governor of Imam Sahib district of Kunduz province.

“Yesterday evening, Afghan National Security Forces launched a joint clearance operation to clear armed Taliban from Now Abad village of Emam Sahib District of northern Kunduz province,” a statement by MoI said.

The statement further added “As a result of this joint operation, 14 armed Taliban including Taliban’s so-called district deputy governor for Emam Sahib District of Kunduz province were killed.”

The ministry also added that 21 other armed Taliban insurgents were also wounded during the operatin.

“The so-called district deputy governor Abdul Rahman was involved in many terrorist and destructive activities in this district and other areas of Kunduz province,” the statement added.

According to MoI, Mullah Asadullah known as Mazloom Yaar, Taliban’s so-called district governor for Imam Sahib District with his several accomplices were also killed during a joint operation of ANSF three days ago.

The Taliban militants group has not commented regarding the report so far.
