Velayati said Barack Obama’s approach for withdrawing US troops from Afghanistan was a wise decision.

The Iran news agencies reported that Velayati shared the issue with the former Irish prime minister Bertie Ahern on Tuesday evening.

Velayati has said that the neighboring countries of Afghanistan are not satisfied with the presence of foreign forces and military bases in Afghanistan.

The remarks by the top Iranian adviser comes as the US officials have warned to withdraw all US troops from Afghanistan by the end of 2014, if the Afghan government did not sign the bilateral security agreement between Kabul and Washington.

Washington is considering is to keep over 10,000 troops in Afghanistan beyond 2014, for couter-terrorism operations and training of the Afghan national security forces.

White House officials insist that a decision is needed within weeks by president Hamid Karzai so that the US military leaders can make plans for post 2014 troops presence in Afghanistan.

However, president Hamid Karzai has refused to sign the deal and insist that his demands should be met by Washington before he signs the bilateral security agreement.
