Three key members of Haqani network arrested in Paktika

arrestsNational Directorate of Security (NDS) – Afghanistan’s intelligence agency – has arrested three key members of the terrorist group of Haqani network in southeastern Paktika province.

A statement issued by NDS office in Paktika on Monday states that the three Haqani members were arrested from a hideout in Kin Kazh area of Geyan district yesterday.

The statement further states that the hideout belonged Sardar, Taliban so-called district governor for Geyan district but during the operation Sardar was not at the compound.

NDS statement also states that a weapon depot belonging to the insurgents was also discovered during the operation.

According to the statement 13 vests of suicide attacks, a number of bombs, light and heavy weapons and ammunition were discovered from the depot.

Nine Pakistani identity cards were also found in the depot, the statement states.

NDS statement further states that the three arrested terrorists are under further interrogation.

Haqani Network is responsible for several deadly attacks in Afghanistan.

Afghanistan’s intelligence agency states that Haqani network was behind the November 2014 attack in Paktika province which left at least 60 people killed and more the 50 wounded. The attack was carried out during a volleyball match where hundreds of football fans had gathered to enjoy the match.
