The provincial Information and Culture Department of northern Baghlan province on Tuesday announced at least three historical sites were discovered in the province.
The provincial Information and Culture Department of Baghlan province in a statement said that three historical sites were surveyed by a team of professionals, including a ruined fort in the Poza Ishan area and two hills in Sheikh Ali and the other in another in the Hussainkhel area of Pul-i-Khumri center of the province.
Karimdad Rahimi, the Protection Director of Cultural Heritage of the province said, “The fort (Kohna Qala) dated back to the Koshanid era and the two hills dated back to the pre-Islamic era.”
Since the return of the Islamic Emirate to power, Taliban authorities claim to have discovered hundreds of historical monuments, sites and relics by a professional team of the Ministry of Information and Culture over the past two years.
Meanwhile, the caretaker authorities said they have prevented the trafficking of hundreds of historical relics and precious stones across the border.
The statement further added that the ministry is putting every effort to discover historical monuments and restore those sites which are on the verge of destruction countrywide.
This comes as the Taliban group blew up the giant status of Bamiyan’s Buddhas during their previous spell in power from 1996-2001, which prompted worldwide condemnations.
