Third Afghan presidential candidate file nomination papers

Afghanistan IECOfficials in independent election commission of Afghanistan (IEC) on Thursday announced that a third candidate formally filed nomination for the upcoming presidential elections.

IEC officials said that the third candidate, Fazal karim Najami filed his nomination along with his two vice-president, Sabir Tamkin and Susan d Hajati.

According to reports, Fazal Karim Najami has previously worked as advisor to ministry of agriculture and rural rehabilitation ministry.

His nomination is followed days after Bismillah Sher and Abdullah Abdullah filed nominations for the presidential elections with the independent election commission of Afghanistan.

Further nominations are expected as a number of high level government officials, including Dr. Ashraf Ghani Ahmadzai, chief of the security transition commission, and lawmaker Abdul Rab Rasool Sayyaf have resigned from their government posts.

The nomination process for Afghanistan presidential candidates started on 16 September, and the enrollment process ends within the next few days.

Karzai’s elder brother Qayum Karzai, foreign minister Dr. Zalmai Rassoul, and Ali Ahmad Jalali are the other potential candidates who are expected to run for the presidential run-off, after filing formal nomination with the Afghanistan independent election commission.
