Mullah Akhtar MansoorThe commander of the US forces and the NATO-led Resolute Support (RS) mission in Afghanistan Gen. John Nicholson has called the attack on enemy leadership in Pakistan as unprecedented.

Gen. Nicholson was briefing reporters who were traveling with Mrine Corps Gen. Joe Dunord, the chairman of the Joint Chiefs of sTaff, who is in Afghanistan for talks Afghan, US and coalition partners to assess the Resolute Support tran, advise and assist mission, according to Defense Department.

He said the May 21 killing of Mullah Akhtar Mohammad Mansur, the head of the Taliban, in a U.S. airstrike “had a more profound impact than I think we even estimated it would.”

“It really demonstrated our commitment to them and to strike at the enemy — something we had not done previously against enemy leadership in Pakistan,” the general said, adding that the combination of all the factors over the last few months has made a “big difference for the Afghans.”

Mulllah Mansoor was killed as he was traveling in Balochistan province of Pakistan after his vehicle was hit in drone strike.

The killing of Mullah Mansoor was widely welcomed by the Afghan government officials as he was blamed for deadly attacks in the country since assuming the leadership charge of the Taliban.
