Afghan security forces arrested a Taliban shadow governor in north-eastern Takhar province of Afghanistan on Sunday.
Afghan intelligence – National Directorate of Security (NDS) said Sunday that the Taliban shadow district governor was arrested along with another suspected militant during an operation in Cha’ab district.
NDS following a statement said that the detained Taliban leader was recognized as Mohammad Fazil and is originally a resident of Cha’ab district of Takhar province.
The statement further added that Mohammad Fazil was appointed by terrorist networks outside the country to coordinate multiple attacks in a bid to disrupt the elections.
According to NDS, Mohammad Fazil was plotting to attack the election sites in Darqad and Yangi areas of Cha’ab district, based on sketches which were brought from Pakistan.
The statement by NDS also added that the other detained militant was recognized as Mullah Ghafoor, who is also famous as Khalbazar.
The detained Taliban militants have confessed to their crimes during the preliminary investigations by Afghan intelligence operatives, NDS said.
