The explosives cache was prepared by the Taliban group to carry out coordinated attacks on election campaigns in this province.
Afghan Intelligence – National Directorate of Security (NDS) following a statement said Monday that the explosives cache was discovered from Purk village in Mohammad Agha district.
The statement further added that the cache included 80 rounds of 75mm mortar shells, 9 BM-8 rockets, 8 rounds of mortar shells, 53 rounds of Iranian made mortar shells, 20 rounds of 82 mm artillery shells, 127 rounds of light and medium mortar shells, and various other types of light and heavy ammunition.
According to NDS officials, a suspected militant recognized as Khan Mir was also arrested in connection to the discovery of explosives cache and is currently under the custody of the Afghan intelligence operatives.
Logar province is among the restive provinces in eastern Afghanistan where Taliban militants are openly operating in its various districts and frequently carry out insurgency activities.
The Taliban militants group has not commented regarding the report so far.
