Monday, August 29, 2011 – On the occasion of Eid-ul –Fitr, The Taliban leader, Mullah Mohammad Omer issued an Eid message and said, the coming the Taliban group will not participate in the second Bonn Conference and named it a symoblic conference.
In his Eid message to Afghans, the leader said, Afghanistan will not be represented by genuine representatives of Afghans in Bonn Conference.
Meanwhile, Afghan president Hamid Karzai said, the coming Bonn Conference II is very important to overcome the challenges in Afghanistan.
Taliban leader Mullah Mohammad Omer in his Eid message also said, topics that will be discussed at Bonn conference have already been decided upon in Washington and in the Pentagon.
The leader of the Taliban militants group also expressed his opposition to the establishment of permanent US military bases in Afghanistan, and said, not only Taliban does not agree with the permanent US bases but Afghan neighboring countries also oppose the idea.
Meanwhile, Deputy spokesman of president Hamid Karzai, Seyamak Herawi said, the Afghan government would represent Afghans at Bonn Conference, it will discuss challenges in the past ten years and present programmes for reconstruction, peace and stability to the International Community.
He said, “Bonn Conference could surely be effective to Afghans.”
Mr. Herawi further added, “It is up to the people of Afghanistan to decide upon establishment of US military bases in Afghanistan.”
The leader of the Taliban said, it is because of the presence of foreign troops in Afghanistan that the country is hit by a flood of challenges.
This comes as a senior officials in Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Afghanistan on Sunday said, if the Taliban is willing to participate in Bonn Conference, it should join the peace process.
