A gathering to be held to discuss political, security, and social issues was reported by the Taliban-controlled Bakhtar News Agency.

The Bakhtar report did not disclose when the Taliban gathering would take place or what the meeting would be called. The Taliban had previously referred to the gathering, both explicitly and subtly, but had avoided using the title Loya Jirga.

The meeting’s title has yet to be decided, according to Taliban spokesman Zabihullah Mujahid, and the gathering, like the Loya Jirga, should not be more of a show, according to Bakhtar News Agency.

Meanwhile, certain Afghan politicians, notably former Afghan President Hamid Karzai, have frequently stated that the Taliban must call a Loya Jirga to resolve the current matters.

Taliban leaders told Bakhtar that members from several ethnic groups and segments of the society would be invited to the meeting to ensure a diverse and comprehensive representation.

This article was released yesterday, 9th May, and the purpose of the meeting is to address two issues: first, the economic concerns and the frozen assets of Afghanistan , both of which must be remedied. The Taliban’s political legitimacy is the second concern.

The meeting would also help people have a more favorable picture of the Taliban, according to the article.

However, women and girls are not mentioned in the statement as being invited to the meeting.
