TalibanTaliban have vowed severe punishment for those involved in lynching Farkhunda in Kabul.

The Express Tribune, media outlet from Pakistan, states that Afghan Taliban in a statement have condemned the brutally killing of a woman in Kabul and vowed severe punishment for those responsible.

“It is now proven that it was a conspiracy by few individuals. The Islamic Emirate condemns those who hatched this conspiracy to misuse Quran for killing an innocent human being. We also convey condolences to her family.” The Express Tribune has quoted Zabihullah Mujahid, Taliban spokesman, as saying in the statement.

“We have decided to give severe punishment to those who are behind the killing of the innocent woman, provoked people for their sinister designs, and misused Quran for personal motives to avoid repetition of such incidents in future.” Mujahid is quoted as saying.

Farkhunda, 27, an Afghan girl was beaten to death and her body was burned by angry mob after some people accused her for burning a copy of the holy Quran.

But investigation of the security agencies as well as Ministry of Hajj and Religious Affairs reveal that the accusation was baseless.

Hundreds of civilians staged protests in Kabul, Herat, Balkh, Kundoz and other parts of the country asking severe punishment for those involved in the cruel act.

Security officials have arrested over 20 people in connection to the killing and efforts have been made to arrest the rest of the people involved.
