Taliban’s shadow governor for the southeastern Ghazni province was killed in an airstrike in this province, the Ministry of Interior (MoI) said Saturday.
According to a statement by MoI, Mullah Qasim was killed along with his other fighters in an air raid in Aab Band district.
It was yet not clear if the airstrike was carried out by the Afghan Air Force or the United States Forces in Afghanistan.
The US President Barack Obama granted broader role to the US Forces in Afghanistan to assist the Afghan National Defense and Security Forces in their fight against a resurgent Taliban.
Teh US forces were earlier carrying out regular airstrikes against the loyalists of the Islamic State of Iraq and Syria (ISIS) terrorist group in Afghanistan.
Meanwhile, MoI said at least two other terrorists were wounded and several vehicles and motorcycles were destroyed in the raid.
According to MoI, Mullah Qasim had a major role in terrorist activities in various parts of Ghazni province and his death will have a positive result on security situation of the province.
The Taliban militants group has not commented regarding the report so far.
