The Taliban group reacted to a deadly coordinated attack which targeted the provincial jail in Jalalabad city, the provincial capital of Nangarhar province.

Zabiullah Mujahid, a spokesperson for Taliban group, said the militants of the group have no links with the attack and sporadic gunfire in Jalalabad city.

Meanwhile, the provincial government in a statement said a group of armed insurgents and suicide bombers attacked the provincial jail late on Sunday.

The statement further added that the security forces killed 3 of the assailants following the gun battle.

According to Nangarhar governor’s office, the attack left at least 5 civilians dead and at least 42 others wounded whose health condition has been reported as satisfactory.

The militants launched the attack by detonating a car packed with explosives, Vehicle-borne Improvised Explosive Device (VBIED), close to jail compound.

No individual group has so far claimed responsibility for the attack.
