Mohammad Afzal Hadid, head of the Balkh provincial council told the media that five members of the Afghan National Army were killed and two others were wounded in a Taliban attack in the Sholgara district of Balkh province.
According to Hadid, the clashes took place on Friday night when the Taliban attacked a security outpost in Bagh-e-Pahlawan village.
Reports indicate that eight security forces and six Taliban militants were killed during the skirmish.
Taliban have reportedly claimed that they have killed 10 ANA soldiers and have taken two of the Afghan soldiers with them.
Hadid said two heavy armored military vehicles also fell into Taliban hands and the outpost was set on fire after the battle.
Government officials have not yet provided details on the incident but confirmed that the clashes happened in the reported region.
