The joint forces conducted separate airstrikes in three provinces of the country inflicting heavy casualties on Taliban fighters.

The military officials said Monday that the security forces conducted an airstrike in Nahr-e-Saraj district of Helmand wounding 3 Taliban fighters.

The security forces carried out a similar airstrike in Khugyani district of Nangarhar. The airstrike killed at least 2 Taliban fighters.

A similar airstrike killed 16 Taliban fighters in Muqur district of Ghazni province, the sources added.

The anti-government armed militants including Taliban have not commented regarding the airstrike so far.

Helmand and Ghazni are among the volatile provinces in southern and south-eastern parts of the country. Taliban militants are active in remote and restive areas of the two provinces.

Taliban militants often attempt to carry out terrorist related activities in the restive districts of Helmand and Ghazni provinces.

In the meantime, the Afghan forces are busy conducting counter-terrorism operations against both groups in the two province.

Similarly, the U.S. forces also conduct regular airstrikes in restive parts of the country to suppress Taliban and other anti-government militants.
