Sunday, August 07, 2011 – Recent claims by Afghan High Peace Council that Taliban leader Mullah Mohammad Omar has shown willingness to take part in peace talks with the Afghan government has been dismissed by the Taliban group.

Taliban spokesman, Zabihullah Mujahid said, the High Peace Council wants to raise some more funds by making such claims.

This comes as a senior member of the High Peace Council said the Taliban leader Mullah Mohammad Omar was willing to hold peace talks with Karzai’s government.

Ismaiel Qasemyar, a top member of the High Peace Council said, “Mullah Mohammad Omar is ready to join the peace process and he no more sticks to not holding talks with the Afghan government.”

Zabiullah Mujahid, the Taliban spokesman further added, there haven’t been any direct or indirect contacts between the Taliban and Karzai’s government.

He said, “When our leader Mullah Omar could resist against 49 countries, how come he could say he is ready for talks? This is a baseless claim. The puppet peace council makes these claims just to keep foreigners’ money flowing into the council,”

He also said, “They are making untruthful promises. These claims would not result in anything and would not turn into reality.”

Meanwhile, the National Directorate of Security (NDS) last week said, if the Taliban leader is alive, he is either in custody of Pakistan or is hidden by Pakistan’s intelligence agency to avoid him face an Osama-like fate.

But Zabiullah Mujahid, the Taliban spokesman said, Mullah Mohammad Omar leader of the Taliban group is inside Afghanistan.

In the meantime, a female member of the House of Representatives recently claimed that Mullah Omar, along with his 12 companions, is her guest, a claim that shocked Afghans.

The Taliban spokesman also called Homa Sultani’s claim nothing more than a big lie.

Meanwhile, a number of Afghan experts have accused the government and the peace council of making lies about peace efforts and say that Afghans no longer believe them.

Waheed Muzhda, a political analyst said, “The peace process has turned into a political tool in Afghanistan. Some take advantage of the process. We haven’t witnessed any real measure taken towards peace.”

Once again the Taliban preconditioned the full withdrawal of foreign troops from Afghanistan before any peace talks are held.
