Two robbers were shot by the Taliban forces during a robbery in Mazar-e-Sharif city, the provincial capital, according to the Taliban government’s security officials in Balkh province in northern Afghanistan.
According to Mohammad Asif Waziri, the Taliban’s spokesman for the chief of police in Balkh province, these robbers were killed on Tuesday, August 23, while attempting to rob in the province’s center, Mazar-e-Sharif city.
A motorcycle and a rifle were reportedly discovered among the robbers’ belongings by the security forces of the Taliban government, according to the Taliban official, Waziri.
Recently, the Taliban government’s security officers in the province of Balkh killed two men on accusations of theft in a similar incident.
Earlier this week, an elderly taxi driver was shot and killed in the provincial capital of Balkh province, Mazar-e-Sharif, according to Taliban security officials.
The Taliban spokesman said that Yar Mohammad, 64, was found dead the next morning in Mazar-e-Sharif’s police district 10 after being first abducted by armed men on Friday while driving his taxi.
The armed robbers who stole the old man’s taxi are still free because Taliban security personnel have not made any arrests concerning the robbery, and murder.
Since the Taliban assumed power, unemployment and poverty have soared at their highest rates in Afghanistan, and criminality has also increased. As a result, there have been more homicides, suicides, and interpersonal conflicts.
