nw afghan herat19According to reports, Taliban militants have abducted four construction workers in western Herat province of Afghanistan.

A local security official speaking on the condition of anonymity confirmed the report and said four workers of a construction firm were abducted by Taliban on Herat-Badghis highway.

The official further added that the incident took place on Friday afternoon in Karkh district, where Taliban militants killed 10 workers earlier in August this year.

In the meantime the official said that the main motive behind the abduction of the construction workers is not clear, and there are no reports regarding the fate of the workers.

Taliban militants also abducted and killed six employees of Rural Rehabilitation and Development ministry in Gulran district of Herat province late in August.

No group including the Taliban militants has so far claimed responsibility behind the abduction of the construction workers.

Herat is among the relatively peaceful provinces in western Afghanistan, however, Taliban militants have recently increased their insurgency activities in it’s various districts.
