The Taliban-run Kabul Municipality has stated that it has closed down dozens of wedding halls and hotels in the Afghan capital due to violations.

The Kabul Municipality issued a statement on Monday, the 10th of September, stating that the operations of 128 hotels had been assessed.

As many as 115 of the hotels and halls had complied with the standards of the Taliban Kabul Municipality while 23 others have been closed down as a result of failing to comply and violations.

The municipality further issued a warning to the wedding halls stating that if they fail to adjust their operations to the applicable regulations of the city, they will face serious legal action.

The announcement stated that among the standards for hotels and wedding halls that have been established by the municipality are avoiding the use of plastic dishes, having tiled kitchens and clean dishwashing places.

Kabul Municipality’s measure comes at a time when there have been reports of people contracting food borne illnesses due to consuming contaminated food.
