Taliban infiltrator kills 16 pro-government militia men in Helmand

A Taliban infiltrator has killed at least sixteen pro-government militia men in southern Helmand province of Afghanistan.

A local security official speaking on the condition of anonymity said the incident took place late on Saturday night in the vicinity of Greshk district.

The source further added that the Taliban infiltrator shot dead sixteen men and escaped from the area by taking the weapons and ammunition of the deceased individuals.

According to the security source, the incident took place in Baba Wali Hotel area of Greshk district.

The local government and security officials have not formally confirmed the incident so far.

The Taliban militants and other insurgent groups fighting the Afghan government have not commented regarding the incident yet.

Helmand is among the volatile provinces in southern Afghanistan where the Taliban militants are actively operating in its various districts and often carry out insurgency activities.

Insider attacks by the Taliban affiliates are not new as numerous incidents have been reported from the restive parts of the country in the past as well, including some deadly attacks on Afghan army and police forces.
