Taliban driven out of Badakhshan’s Tagab District

BadakhshanOfficials say Taliban militants have been driven out of Tagab District of northeastern Badakhshan province.

Ahmad Naweed Ferotan told Khaama Press on Tuesday that the operation to clear all parts of Tagab from Taliban took two days. He said people returned to normal life since yesterday.

“Taliban have been completely driven out of Tagab District,” Firotan said, adding that 15 Taliban were killed and 20 others wounded in the operation that ended yesterday.

Those killed include Qari Mahmood, the so-called governor of Taliban for Warsaj District of Takhar province, and two other commanders of the group namely Qari Mahboob and Talha.

Ferotan further said that two security men also embraced martyrdom in the operation.

According to the governor’s spokesperson Taliban fled to other areas of the province but security forces following them.

“They {Taliban} have fled to Yamgan and Teshkan districts but security forces have been following them,” he said.
