Taliban district chief among 55 killed in Farah province

Taliban-guerrilla-fighter-001At least 55 Taliban militants including the group’s district shadow governor were killed following a special military operation in western Farah province of Afghanistan.

The interior ministry of Afghanistan following a statement said Sunday that the operation was jointly conducted by Afghan national army and Afghan national police forces in Gulistan district.

The statement further added that the Taliban shadow district governor Mawlavi Abdul Raziq was among the 55 militants killed during the operation.

At least 45 Taliban militants were also injured during the operations, interior ministry said adding that the Afghan security forces confiscated various types of weapons, ammunition and explosives during the operations.

Interior ministry also added that the group was involved in major terrorist activities including assassinations and roadside bombings in Gulistan district and other parts of Farah province.

The anti-government armed militant groups have not commented regarding the report so far.
