Afghanistan – Ministry of Interior Affairs said Wednesday the Taliban have carried at least 575 offensive attacks throughout Afghanistan in just two weeks, inflicting heavy casualties on civilians.
Tariq Arian, spokesman for the Interior Ministry, in a statement Wednesday said that 92 mine bombings and six suicide attacks by Taliban among others are carried against Afghan people and security forces.
According to Arian, 86 civilians were killed in these attacks and further 165 were wounded; he did not comment on casualties among Afghan security and defense forces.
Of the 575 Taliban offensives, 72 were carried out in Helmand province alone, the interior ministry said.
Figures came a time the Taliban insurgents have been carrying attacks in several parts of Helmand province for days now, and clashes between the group and Afghan forces are still ongoing.
Local officials, confirming the security status in Helmand, said up to 40,000 residents are displaced, which numbers nearly 6,000 families in the province.
According to sources, residents of Chah-e-Anjir, Seyed Abad, Babaji and Bolan areas – which are the centers of the war – have been completely evacuated.
Taliban did not immediately comment on the statement provided by the interior ministry.
