Taliban battered in Maidan Wardak, civilian casualties reported

The Ministry of Defense in a released statement on Monday said, at least 21 Taliban militants were killed in the Jalriz district of Maidan Wardak province.

Fawad Aman, deputy spokesman for the Ministry of Defense tweeted that Afghan national defense and security forces targeted Taliban fighters in an operation in the Jalriz district of Maidan Wardak province on Sunday.

During the operation at least 21 Taliban fighters were killed, Aman said in a tweet.

Some weapons and ammunition belonging to the Taliban were also destroyed during the operation.

Taliban have not yet commented on the incident.

Meanwhile, seven public protection forces were killed in a Taliban ambush at Mes Aynak (copper mine) on Sunday.

According to reports at least seven public protection force members were killed during the Taliban attack in Logar province.

Local officials told the media that the incident took place at around 2:00 pm local time in the Sayed Abad area of Mohammad Agha district.

A Ranger-type vehicle was targeted during the Taliban ambush, the public protection force members were responsible for the protection of the copper mine.

It is reported that three other members of this unit were wounded in the attack.

Moreover, Sharifullah Hotak, a provincial council member on Sunday told the media that eight members of a family were killed in an airstrike in Zorlang village of Jalriz district.

He added in another incident four members of one family were killed when a mortar hit their house in Sayed Abad district.

Three people are reported wounded when a Mortar shell landed in a residential area.

This comes amid peace efforts and calls for reduction of violence and an end to war in Afghanistan.
