Students at Balkh University in northern Afghanistan’s Balkh province who had been confined inside the university by the Taliban broke the lock and demonstrated in protest of Friday’s attack on Kaaj.
Because they had called for a protest the day before, the Taliban trapped these students inside the university since Monday morning, October 3. The Taliban were doing so to prevent the protest from happening.
The Taliban’s attempt to stop the student protest in Balkh was unsuccessful, as, in the videos sent to the Khaama Press, the girls broke the lock and conducted their march in protest as scheduled with a slight delay.
At the same time, Kabul University’s female dormitory residents were in very poor health condition. Since Sunday, they have not been able to hold a protest because they were food poisoned.
According to a source from Ferdous Hospital who spoke to Khaama Press this morning, the female students were able to leave the university with the support of their family members on a variety of pretexts to be treated in private hospitals.
The source also stated that many patients’ conditions were critical.
This comes as the protests, sparked by the deadly attack on the Kaaj education center in the Hazara neighborhood of Kabul, were suppressed by the Taliban using violence and aerial shootings.
