Suspected insider attack leaves 7 police dead in Kandahar

Afghan policeAccording to reports at least seven Afghan police officers were killed in southern Kandahar province of Afghanistan.

Arghistrict governor Haji Abdul Ghani confirming the report said the incident took place on Monday night by two suspected militants who visited the security check post.

There are no reports regarding the circumstances of the incident.

No group including the Taliban militants has so far claimed responsibility behind the incident.

This comes as insurgent-emplaced improvised explosive device exploded, killing two civilians and wounding two others in the vicinity of Arowgh village, Khakrez district, Kandahar province, on Monday.

The blast also killed an Afghan Local Police (ALP) member and wounded an ALP checkpoint commander.

Militants attacks have been rampant across the country specifically in southern provinces of Afghanistan since Taliban group announced its summer offensive in April this year.

In the meantime local officials in Kandahar province expressed concerns regarding deployment of militants from Pakistani religious schools in Kandahar province.

The officials said several religious schools have been closed in tribal regions of Pakistan and militants have been deployed in Afghanistan to carry out insurgency activities.
