Helmand province(A)A suicide bomber was shot dead by Afghan security forces before he manage to reach his target in southern Helmand province of Afghanistan.

The suicide bomber was reportedly looking to attack the district police chief for Nad-e-Ali district, but was recognized and shot dead by Afghan police forces.

In the meantime, provincial governor spokesman, Omar Zwak confirming the report, said the suicide bomber detonated his explosives after Afghan security forces opened fire on him.

Helmand is among the volatile provinces in southern Afghanistan where Taliban militants are openly operating in its various districts.

The anti-government armed militant groups have not commented regarding the incident so far.
