Afghan National PoliceA suicide bomber was shot dead by Afghan security forces in capital Kabul on Tuesday evening.

According to Kabul security officials, the suspected suicide bomber was shot dead on Darul Aman road near the 6th district police station, around 6pm local time.

Najibullah Danish, deputy spokesman for the interior ministry of Afghanistan, said the suicide bomber was looking to attack a tribal elder, Mohammad Alam.

Kabul police chief, Gen. Zahir said the suicide bomber was recognized by the security guards of Mohammad Alam and was shot dead before he manage to detonate his explosives.

In the meantime, reports suggest that two suicide bombers were shot dead by security forces. However, security officials have confirmed the death of only one suicide bomber.

Mohammad Alam is an influential tribal elder and a former Jihadi leader from norhtern Baghlan province of Afghanistan.

No group including the Taliban militants has so far claimed responsibility behind the incident.
