A heavy explosion rocked southern Kandahar province of Afghanistan early Thursday morning.

According to reports the incident took place after a suicide bomber detonated his explosives near a police check post in southern Kandahar city.

Provincial governor spokesman Javid Faisal confirming the report said at least 3 Afghan police officers were killed following the blast.

The explosion took place in Market-e-Yarana area in the fourth district of Kandahar after a suicide bomber detonated explosives packed in a motorcycle, Javid Faisal said.

In the meantime provincial hospital officials said at least 4 wounded police officers were taken to the hospital so far.

No group including the Taliban militants has so far claimed responsibility behind the incident.
