Suicide attack in nangarharA suicide bomber attacked the convoy of the NATO-led coalition forces in eastern Nangarhar province on Monday afternoon.

According to local security officials, the incident took place on the highway between Jalalabad city and Torkham.

Provincial police spokesman Hazrat Hussain Mashriqwal confirmed that a convoy of the NATO forces came under attack on Jalalabad-Torkham highway.

The eyewitnesses in the area have said a vehicle of the coalition forces was damaged following the attack.

The Taliban militants group claimed responsibility behind the incident and said a suicide bomber rammed a vehicle-borne improvised explosive device (VBIED) into the convoy of US forces in Jalalabad.

Nangarhar is among the relatively volatile provinces in eastern Afghanistan where anti-government armed militants are acively operating in a number of its districts.

This comes as a suicide bomber targeted the vehicle of the European Union Police Mission in Afghanistan in Kabul this afternoon, leaving at least one person dead and five others injured.
