Suicide attack on Taliban commandersAt least 16 senior Taliban commanders were killed following a suicide attack in eastern Ghazni province of Afghanistan on Tuesday.

Afghan Intelligence – National Directorate of Security (NDS) said the incident took place in a Taliban leaders gathering in Gelan district.

National Directorate of Security (NDS) following a statement said the Taliban leaders were planning coordinated attacks in Ghazni province when a Taliban suicide bomber opposed with the Taliban leaders plans and detonated his explosives.

The statement by NDS also added that a number of Pakistani Taliban commanders were also among those killed.

At least 9 Taliban commanders were also injured in the attack, NDS said.

Ghazni is among the restive provinces in south-eastern Afghanistan where Taliban militants are openly operating in its various districts and frequently carry out insurgency attacks.

This comes as at least seven Taliban militants were killed while they were making improvised explosive device (IED) inside a mosque in Deh Yak district of Ghazni province on Saturday.
