A heavy explosion rocked northern Faryab province of Afghanistan on Wednesday afternoon, after a suicide bomber targeted an armored vehicle of the Afghan national army in this province.
According to the local government officials, the incident took place around 1pm local time after the suicide bomber detonated explosives packed in a motorcyle in Almar district.
Preliminary reports suggested that four Afghan national army soldiers were injured following the explosion which destroyed the armored vehicle of the Afghan troops.
However a local security official speaking on the condition of anonymity said that three Afghan soldiers were killed and two others were injured following the explosion.
The source further added that a vehicle of the Afghan intelligence – National Directorate of Security (NDS) was also damaged following the blast.
Provincial council chief Maulavi Asadullah Jalali also confirmed that one Afghan soldier was killed following the suicide attack, and anoher soldier was injured but he said that further details of the casualties yet to be confirmed.
No group including the Taliban militants has so far claimed responsibility behind the incident.
