At least 45 security personnel belonging to army and the Afghan Local Police (ALP) forces have lost their lives in the attack by the militants in Baghlan province.

Informed sources speaking on the condition of anonymity said the attack was carried out late on Tuesday night in Baghlan Markazi area.

The sources further added that a large number of Taliban militants attacked the Alauddin base, claiming the lives of 30 soldiers and 10 ALP forces.

According to the officials, the Taliban militants also sustained casualties during the clashes with the security forces.

However, there are no reports available regarding the casualties of the militants during the clashes

This comes as a military base was overrun by the Taliban militants during a similar attack in Ghormach district of Faryab province earlier.

Baghlan has been among the relatively calm provinces in the North but the security situation of the province has deteriorated during the recent years.

The Taliban militants often carry out coordinated attacks and other types of terrorist related activities in some remote parts of the province.
