Kuwait’s parliament has unanimously voted to endorse Sheikh Meshaal Al Ahmad Al Sabah as crown prince, according to sources, a day after the new emir named him for the post.

Sheikh Meshaal arrived in parliament shortly after the vote on Thursday, taking his oath in front of Emir Sheikh Nawaf Al Ahmad Al Sabah as the new crown prince, Kuwait News Agency (KUNA) reported.

Sheikh Nawaf assumed power as emir following the death of his brother Sheikh Sabah Al Ahmad Al Jaber Al Sabah last week.

Born in 1929, Shiekh Sabah was the great-grandson of the Founder of modern Kuwait, Mubarak al Sabah, who had signed the ‘Treaty of Friendship’ with the British in 1899.
