KundozResident of the key northern city of Kundoz face severe food shortage as fighting continues between security forces and Taliban insurgents.

According to local residents, most of the shops are still close and people fear to come out of their homes as gun shots are still being heard in and around the city.

Reports suggest that the city is under full control of security forces but militants hiding in some civilian homes occasionally shoot on security forces and run away.

Local officials say Taliban are creating an environment of fear in Kundoz city.

The acting governor of Kundoz province said that security forces have been busy in looking for Taliban hiding in civilian homes.

Taliban occupied several areas of Kundoz city on the evening of Monday last week after severe clashes with security forces.

They had been controlling the seized areas for about two days before Security forces launched a large-scale operation to end their siege on those areas.

Ministry of Defense said that hundreds of Taliban were killed and wounded in the operation.
