A senior police officer sustained injuries in an explosion triggered by an improvised explosive device in Kabul city earlier today.

The security officials are saying that the incident has taken place in the vicinity of the 17thh police district of the city.

A spokesman for the Kabul Security Commandment Hashmatullah Stanikzai confirmed the incident and said the police chief of Police District#5 was wounded in the explosion.

Stanikzai further added that the incident took place at around 6am local time after a magnetic bomb planted in the vehicle of PD#5 police Chief Ghafoor Azizi went off.

He said Mr. Azizi has sustained minor injuries in the explosion and an investigation has been launched regarding the incident.

The Taliban militants group claimed responsibility behind the incident.

A spokesman for the Taliban group Zabiullah Mujahid issued a statement claiming that the explosion left at least three people dead while the police chief of Police District#5 has sustained injuries.
